I only have previews of my latest post on my front page, can I (and how) change this so it shows them (at least the latest one) in full instead?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Some themes are coded to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog. If the theme daoes have an active excerpt box (most themes do not have an active excerpt feature) then you can copy and paste the entire post into the excerpt box below the post editor and overirde that front page excerpt display. If you do not see the Excerpt module, click the Screen Options tab near the top-right on your Admin page when writing or editing a post and make sure that “Excerpt” is checked first.

Look in the Modules that can be hidden here:
Posts – Post Tags, Categories, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments, Post Slug, Post Author, Post Revisions
http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/#list-of-modules -
if I go to post and in to my latest (only so far) post i find Excerpt in the screen menu but I doesn’t seem to help to check it (and shouldn’t it be the revere? shouldn’t it be unchecked to show the full post?)

This is the way the theme you’ve chosen (Fresh & Clean) works. The front page of the theme only displays an excerpt of the post with a “read more” link.
If this doesn’t suit you, then you may want to try a different theme.

That was what I was afraid of, but why does wordpress accept it in that case? why not leave the chose up to the admin?
I cant find any theme that I like, but its not possble to have the post shorten like this for me -
but jennifer ” Using excerpts is completely optional”
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/
shouldn’t that mean I can change so the post s shown in the full length -
Again, this is how the Fresh & Clean theme works. We can’t change the coding of the theme, so, no, we can’t show the full post on the front page in that theme.
Excerpts are not supported by all themes. If you want a full list of those that do (and therefore by elimination those that do not), see this post by Panos, another forum volunteer: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/the-excerpt-function/

Seams strange, but thanks for the link. I dont know how to solove it, its nog that big amount of themes to chose from

Most themes display full posts by default, unless you insert a readmore tag. Some themes display the beginning of each post by default. Very few themes have an option for you to select full or beginning.
Pasting content in the Excerpt box allows you to override the default: If the theme displays beginnings but you want full posts, you switch the editor to HTML, select all, copy, paste into Excerpt box, Update. (Note: objects inserted via shortcodes won’t show up.)
Checking or unchecking items in Screen options determines which modules will appear on your editor screen, not what will appear on your actual blog.

@panos-I stand corrected, but I have to wonder what will happen if the OP decides somewhere down the road to switch themes. Also, and as you noted in your post, the various shortcodes do not work in the Excerpt box.
So, using the Excerpt function may be an option, but with severe limitations.
@kfindia-what are you looking for in a theme? There are 160 themes available so far with new ones coming out regularly. Surely one comes close.
-
It works the way it does because the designer specifically set out to create a theme that was for people who only want snippets of their posts on the front page. If you override that, the visual result may not be as pleasing.
-
raincoaster, then i would prefer not having any theme at all but doing the job by my self.
justhennifer: Im not so sure. we are two people with two different wills… I want one with a lot of colurs (like koi) and graphic, the other one don’t. So I guess a clean design but with a ok header will do. We going to have a lot of photos on the blog and their for the post need to be shown in full at the front page. Te be able to have an gallery (small thumbs you can click on and then go thru them all) is a Need.
two colums too, but it seems like this is possible to change later.maybe Freshy will do, but om not sure it have everything we need

@Jen:
You don’t stand corrected! I didn’t recommend using excerpts, I only tried to explain how things work. Like you, the solution I’d recommend is simply a different theme.@kfindia:
a) If you’re going to publish lots of photos, you should use a plain-looking theme, not a colorful one.
b) A gallery is a WP feature, not a theme feature. Works in all themes.
c) If by two columns you mean main content and sidebar, check this post (under “One sidebar” and “Sidebar(s) plus bottom and/or header”):
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/02/26/sidebars-and-other-widget-areas/
Combine it with which themes support a header image:
