Viewers "Like This" button

I set up a “Like This” button on my posts. However, viewers are unable to like it because they don’t have a WordPress.com account. Do they really have to create an account in order to like this?
Is there a generic “like this” that doesn’t require any additional log-ins or registrations by my viewers?

Yes they do. The reason why is clear. It’s an in-house button. The like button is available only to other members of the WordPress.com community. If your visitors wish to express that they “like” you post but do not wish to register WordPress.com accounts then they can simply submit comments for you to approve.
At the bottom of each post and page you can now include sharing buttons for your readers to share your content across a range of social networks/services. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/

and if that is that case, which I must accept it is, why can I not see the like button?

It’s like the Facebook Like Button: you have to have a Facebook account to use it, no?
And I do see your Like button. It appears on individual posts only (not on your home page). This is normal. Example:

Personally, I avoid the FB Like button, only use it to for access into an author’s page. I never use it to ‘Like’ people’s Status Updates or Comments. I imagine FB uses it as a means to collect data.
And actually I never thought about whether or not non-FB users can see the Like Buttons, or not, but it makes sense.
I checked what you said about the WordPress Like button, and I see the likes on my posts. Thank you for straigthening me out on that! But, how do readers find the like button? Does it appear for readers, and just not for the owner (me) of the blog?
