Viewership and Spam alert from pinning to Pinerest

  • Unknown's avatar

My viewership is down dramatically for the past 3 days – is there anything I’m doing wrong technically or is the site having difficulties that I’m not aware of – or need to address?
Also, I have had a complaint that when people try to pin pics from by blog to Pinterest they are getting a spam error – how can I keep this from happening? With my blog being mostly crafts and recipes – being able to promote with Pinterest is vital.
    All help appreciated! Thank you!

It looks like the majority of this traffic decrease came to a reduction in referrers from Pinterest. I don’t think there’s anything you’re doing wrong or anything wrong with the system that’s causing this. I suspect it’s just a reduction in share numbers. Perhaps more individuals featured your article on Pinterest for a specific period of time.

Also, I have had a complaint that when people try to pin pics from by blog to Pinterest they are getting a spam error – how can I keep this from happening?

Have you received this error when clicking through to your blog? Could you let me know a bit more specifically what the error message entails? I suspect it might be the error message you would see when visiting doitandhow.com over HTTPS like this:

    https://doitandhow.com

    Can you confirm?

The https error is something new I wasn’t aware of either! oh no!!
    The original problem is this:
When I tested and tried to pin from my site I get the pop-up: “Oops! Sorry, we blocked this link because it may lead to spam.” I can pin the picture if I open it separately, but it wont link back to my page, which is vital. So basically Pinterest is blocking my site, because it ‘may’ lead to spam. In reality I’m not trying to spam anyone!!

The HTTPS error isn’t anything you necessarily need to worry about provided you’re using HTTP links to your domain doitandhow.com. We’ll default to HTTP for you throughout WordPress.com so you shouldn’t experience a problem.

Regarding the Pinterest error, I’m receiving that as well, but I don’t believe it has anything to do with WordPress.com. This appears like a blocking on the Pinterest side. It looks like they block sites for a handful of reasons explained here:

I think your best bet right now is to reach out to them directly to find out why your site might be blocked!
