Viewing a backup file as an offline website

    I have had my wordpress site hosted elsewhere for a few years now, but I’m not particularly happy with the service. So I want to cancel my subscription.
    I have downloaded my site as a backup zip, and also downloaded the databases.
    Now that all these files are on my laptop, I would like to view them as if they were a site.

    Seeing as I have all the files, I imagine this should be something straight forward, and not cost anything, but I have no idea how to do it.

    Hi there,

    To do that you’d have to install the WordPress software locally on a virtual server on your computer, and then import the database there.

    For help with running WordPress locally on your computer, please see the documentation for the open source WordPress.org software. Also post in their forums for more help with this – we can only help with sites hosted on WordPress.com in this forum, and there’s no way to upload the files you have to a WordPress.com site.
