Viewing post from oldest to newest.

is it possible to configure my blog to show the oldest posts first and then scroll down to the new ones.

It requires popping into the php briefly, but the question has been answered so well elsewhere, i rest on the shoulders of giants!

I’m sorry but there is no means of reversing the order of display. Blogs are essentially a reverse chronological order publishing tool and you cannot change this order on a free hosted WordPress.com blog.
Readers arrive to read our most recent posts. In the case of my blog that means they don’t have to slog through over 800 posts to locate the most recent one.

You could use a sticky post as an index page > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts

Alternately, could the poster just assign dates artificially (by manually post-dating) to stack the order as they would prefer to present it?

Yes we can fudge date-stamps. No I do not recommend doing that. There are no visitors who will scroll through hundreds of post to locate what they came to read ie. the most recent post published. Also as there are published posts on the blog editing date stamps will mean that the URLs to any indexed content will be broken. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/05/avoid-creating-404-pages/
I believe creating a sticky post and using it as an index is the better way to go.
