Viewing Posts on the WordPress Subscription Page
-
Hi, this is my blog: http://janaemonir.wordpress.com/
Here’s the issue: When I publish a post, the entire post is viewable on the WordPress subscription page. This means that my WordPress subscribers are able to read the whole post without having to click to my blog. I do not like this because my pictures are distorted in that view, the look and feel of my blog is not represented, and I don’t have an accurate idea of how many people are actually reading my blog. I have my RSS and email subscription notifications set up so that the reader must click to the blog specifically because of this.
Question: Is there a way to determine how much of a post is shown in the WordPress subscription reader? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you!
~Janae

This is your RSS feed for posts (entries) http://janaemonir.wordpress.com/feed/ What can be seen by your readers and what’s emailed to them is what you see there.
-
If you go to your Settings, you can set it to display a truncated post and a link to your blog.

I believe it’s Settings->General but it might be Setting->Reading. You choose how many items to display in your feed and full feeds or partial feeds.

Sorry, I think I found it. It was already set to ‘summary’ though that’s not what I saw in WordPress Subscription Reader.

I have the same question as janaemonir. I just went to the settings–>writing tab as raincoaster suggested and changed from full text to summary. but janaemonir, you said yours was already set to summary and this is not what you wanted? i, too, have the same problem with the post looking very different in the e-mail than it does when you click on the live hyperlink. Does anyone have any other (or more specific) suggestions? thanks!

Having looked into it more, it appears the Subscription and RSS subscriptions are more different than I thought. In that case, the only way I know of to force people to go to your website instead of in their subscriptions is to include a video, which doesn’t show up in the subscriptions, if I’m correct.
You MIGHT be able to put the Read More link in and have it display only the first portion of the post in the subscriptions. But if it really bothers you, take the Subscription widget out. Because you don’t really want them reading the subscription if you want them to read the actual blog instead.

Just to double-check, that differs from this?

This may be correct. I made a mistake earlier when I said settings then writing
I meant settings then reading. I have made the change from full text to summary and will see how that works out when I release a post tomorrow! If it doesn’t work I’ll be back!!
