Views from spammer or spambot or something!

Thank you. Nothing actually there, except the views. I’ve had couple of spam comments which went into the spam folder anyway, and weren’t even on the 12 posts with the weird activity anyway, but that’s par for the course. It’s just odd. I could understand it if they were reviews of best-selling books or popular films, but they’re 12 fairly random things!

    Thanks for looking :-).

I’m still finding this whole thing very odd. 65 views in the last week on a review of a rather obscure book which, until all this spambot thing started on Saturday 10th, hadn’t had any views since May 2016 – and from a very small number of viewers. I’d love to think it was so fascinating that someone wanted to read it 65 times, but I’m afraid it really isn’t! And the same thing with a dozen or so other posts. It’s just so odd how it’s all suddenly started happening, and I can’t get to the bottom of it. If anyone’s got any ideas, please let me know!

  • @setinthepast did you see my comment about how it could be on someone’s browser start page?

If you were, you’d get a “view” from that “visitor” every single time they open a blank / new browser tab.

I’ve even seen that happen where the visitor was the site owner themselves.

Again, if it were a spammer, you’d be getting some sort of advertisement somewhere.

Yes, and thanks for getting back to me, but it’s happening on 14 posts now – although it’s now more on some and less on the original ones. Yesterday it was 37 times on that one post – it seems odd that someone would’ve opened the site 37 times in a day! I can’t think why anyone would do this without leaving an advert or anything, but it’s just strange!

  • I open a browser tab 37 times a day, easily :)

Sorry we can’t do more to help with this! If you start seeing ads or some other sort of payload, let us know.
