  On these block themes, do we no longer have a visit counter? I’m not able to find one? Blank Canvas is the theme I’m working with.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there,

  Are you perhaps thinking of the Blog Stats widget? That was converted to a block widget with WordPress 5.8 last year, and is still available:

  https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/blog-stats-widget/

  I’m not aware of any theme on WordPress.com that had/has such a feature built in.

  Hi kokkieh,

  Yes it is the Blog Stats widget I was referring to. It’s what I’ve always used with the Colinear template.

  It appears that with the new Blank Canvas template for which I’m designing a new template in — which can be seen here – https://tryfse2.wordpress.com/ …

  … there is no Blog Stats widget or block available. On the 2nd blog I mentioned above, I have installed a 3rd party counter with simple html code from https://www.freecounterstat.com/

  I really don’t want to have to resort to using a 3rd party counter. So I wonder why there isn’t a block of this type for the new block themes, or maybe is it just with this one theme. I really like the Blank Canvas template because I can make a unique look for my website. So I’m just trying to figure out what I need to do as far as having a counter on my main website when I finish this design and move it over to my main website. Thanks for any knowledge you have on this topic.

  Okay, it appears I was mistaken – the Blog Stats widget is in fact a legacy widget, not a block one. That’s not clear from the support page, and I’ve followed up with the team responsible for that to get it updated. Sorry for the confusion.

  Unfortunately that means you won’t be able to use that widget on any of the newer block themes, including Blank Canvas. Legacy widgets are only available for classic themes that have widget areas configured in the Customizer.

  I did some digging and it doesn’t look like there are any plans to turn this widget into a block at present, so if you’ve been able to find a third-party view counter that works, your best option is to stick with that for now.
