Visiters having trouble commenting
-
I have had several people who used to be able to comment on my wordpress.com blog that tell me recently, they are now unable to comment. I am told that wordpress asks them to “log-in” in order to comment but then gives them no log in options. I checked my discussion settings and I do not have the box checked that reads “users must be logged in and registered to comment”. The most recent reader who brought this to my attention is a long time blogger who has a wp account – she says it asks her to log-in in order to comment, but then won’t allow her to log-in. I do not think the problem is that she is unable to figure it out. Please advise. Thank you!

This change was made over a month ago.
To prevent impersonation, commenters who attempt to comment with an email address attached to an existing WordPress.com or Gravatar account will be asked to log in first.
This is a system-wide change, and the only way to display it per-blog would be to uncheck the name and email address requirement at Settings -> Discussion.

Ok. Thank you for the information. But, what about the reader who has a wordpress blog and when she tries to log-in to make a comment, it won’t allow her to. ?

I’d ask her to see if she has any success by logging in at http://wordpress.com/ before commenting.

Thank you. I will pass that on. But honestly, if it is that difficult or involved for people to comment they probably will just skip it. And that of course, concerns me and makes me wonder if the affect will be a drop in overall commenting. Just something to consider.

I agree, but we’ll need a few more details to track down the problem. If we know that she’s able to log in via http://wordpress.com/ first, then comment, we’ll have something to go on.
