visitor stats more important than views?

  A Marketing question, which is best to know? I have the feeling that the number of customers is the best indication of growth .. any thoughts on this?

  It really depends on who you are talking to. For example, pageviews relates to the number of ads a site could show. Visitors relates to the number of individual people a site could show those ads to.
