Visitor to Private Blog
-
I wonder if anybody can explain something strange that has happened.
I have a blog on Blogger where I have had some strange visitors (long story that one!) so I have been toying with the idea of migrating the blog to WordPress. So, a little while ago I created another blog here for that purpose. However, as I am still undecided the blog has just been left with a status as a private blog for the time being, until I decide what to do with it.
Today I just happened to look at the blog and clicked on the stats. Although I do have another WordPress blog, I am not sure I have ever looked at the WordPress stats, so I thought I would see how they differ from the Blogger stats. I was very surprised indeed to see that I have had one visitor on the 10th January.
The really strange thing is that this visit gives the name of a referring blog. This blog is one that I looked at myself the other day (am not sure exactly when). I clicked on it because I saw a comment from the blog owner in one of the blogs that I read via the Blogger reading list. I have contacted the owner of the blog and she has confirmed that she has no knowledge whatsoever of my blog and that there is no link to it on her blog.
Has anybody got any idea how my visit to this other blog could be connected to what is showing as a visit to my as yet private blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your own visits show up on your Private blogs. As well, if someone goes to the URL, even if all they see is the warning it’s private, that counts as a hit.

I have a private blog and have a visitor from Alaska. How can I expel them? How did it happen? The blog is private.

Yes, nowhere in the post does it say how to expel a visitor to a private blog. Nor does it address the problem of having a visitor visit a private blog. As you know, it is private so that no one can visit it. What gives?

Hello there. I think what Raincoaster was saying is that he does not believe that anybody has actually gained access to a private blog. Apparently when somebody attempts to gain access to a private blog (maybe because they don’t even know that it is private), then it shows up in the stats as if somebody has actually been able to read the blog. This is pretty silly, I know, as people like you and I quite naturally think that somebody has gained access to the blog….. but it appears that we have nothing to worry about! :-)

I am sorry I never thanked you for your reply, Raincoaster. I intended to do so, but it has been a crazy couple of days here! :-)
By the way Survivingmyabandonment, if you install either Statcounter or Sitemeter on your blog, that will (hopefully) show you for sure that no unauthorised person is looking at your blog.
