Visitors clicking links that are not part of my blog.

    Hi again everyone!
    http://mrsbitch.wordpress.com here.

My blog traffic is picking up slowly, but today I noticed that under Clicks on my Stats page, there are two links that visitors clicked on from my blog that are NOT part of my blog.

I have logged out and visited my site as a visitor to see if there were Possibly Related Links or Adsense ads, and didn’t see either when I was at the blog.

Both of the links are WordPress blogs. I will include them here and if that is inappropriate, could a moderator please delete them or let me know and I will delete the post.

My question is, can I stop links from showing on my blog that I have not specifically put there?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you go to a single-post page on your blog, such as this one, http://mrsbitch.wordpress.com/2009/09/21/hey-the-republicans-are-working-on-health-care-reform/ , you will notice at the bottom of the post, “possibly related post (automatically generated).”

Most likely that is where the clicks are coming from.

If you do not wish to have this active on your blog, you can turn it off: http://support.wordpress.com/related-posts/ .

    Thanks, thesacredpath!

One question of clarification – if I Hide Related Posts, the article says, “If you remove related posts from your blog we’ll remove you from other people’s blogs, so you won’t get traffic from that.”

Now, this is probably a really stupid question, but does this only mean that I will not show up as a Related Post link on other people’s blogs? People will still be able to click on my avatar and attached link to get to my blog if I comment somewhere else, correct?

And yes, it’s entirely possible that I’m making this way too difficult and reading too much into a simple instruction. ;^)

does this only mean that I will not show up as a Related Post link on other people’s blogs?

Yes that is what that means.

Any comments you have left – or leave – on other blogs will still link back to your blog as long as you are logged in or put your blog URL into the website field if logged out, or on a non-wordpress.com blog.
