visitors from other hosts are asked to sign into wordpress to comment

    Hi
I’ve received complaints from visitors from Blogger that WordPress asks them to sign into WordPress before leaving a comment and they aren’t allowed to comment on my blog(s) without it.I am losing visitors because of this. My settings are set for “anybody can comment”…and no “fill out name and email” is required.
    Could you help me polease
    Tbank you

If they have a gravatar account, they can use that account email and password to sign in. This change was made to keep people from impersonating others and was triggered by someone impersonating Matt Cutts from Google. He whined. We all pay.

Go to settings discussion and set your site so that a name and email address is NOT required to comment and it will bypass the email address check and people won’t have to sign in.

Thank you for the reply…my discussion settings has always been that a name and email is NOT required and I have double checked it. But yet, WordPress now asks a name and email address irrespective of my settings, which I have just seen myself by logging into a different account and trying to leave an anonymous comment on my blog.
    thanks

Crap. I thought that was working. It is so sad that the entire internet is doing to be brought down to the lowest common denominator. Sometimes I wish I could resign from the human race.

I have two suggestions, neither of which are optimal.

    1. Tell your commenters (perhaps a sticky post at the top of your blog) not to put in an email address. The email address is what triggers it. If the email address they are using is tied to a wordpress.com or gravatar account, they are going to have to sign in if they include their email address. They can sign in with their gravatar account information.

    2. Tell them to use an email address that is NOT connected to a wordpress.com or gravtar account.

Thank you. I appreciate your reply. I’m just disappointed that something that worked so well has now been changed. I actually always boasted about WordPress not having the comment problems like Blogger has and now I have to swallow my words!
    thanks

I’m having the same problem with people from Blogger not being able to comment. I get precious few comments anyway, so I miss them!

Like you, myfrenchkitchen, I always told people how much better WP was when compared to other hosts.
