Visitors from the WordPress reader does not register as visits on my blog

I’ve noticed that I sometime can get 0 visiters and views, but still get likes and comments. This is so weird it must be a bug, right?

This is usually how my stats are in the morning.

I’m on the free plan currently. Can that have something to do with why I have so low visit number? I usually get a lot of likes, comments and views, but the visitors are super low. I do have a new blog, but that’s not the issue here.

My main problem is why people from the WordPress reader do not show up as actual visits.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • You may sometimes see like and comment activity that may not trigger a visit on your site. This can happen if someone likes or comments on your content either from email (as subscriber) or via the Reader. This is explained here: https://wordpress.com/support/stats/understand-your-sites-traffic/#likes-and-comments

Although these interactions count towards your readership, they are not technically visiting your site, so we do not count them as such. One way to encourage visits to your site is to show only a portion of your blog post, possibly the first paragraph or the first few lines, and then adding a continue reading link. You can do that by adding the More Block to the spot in your blog post where you want the content to be cut off and hidden behind the link:

    WP
Blocks (The Full List) » More Block
    3 min read
Use the More block to shorten your blog entries so that only the first part of a post is displayed. This guide will show you how to use the More block to display just a portion of the post followed by a “read more” link. About The More Block The More block can be used to keep your blog posts concise. It displays only the initial part of your post content in places where an excerpt is more

I’m on the free plan currently. Can that have something to do with why I have so low visit number?

Firstly, I’ve taken a look at your site, and I don’t see anything wrong with how it is displayed and there seems to be nothing that is impeding peoples ability to visit it. Please also note that it can take search engines 4-6 weeks to update their search indexes, so if your site and/or domain are new, they may not appear in search results immediately, but it can help to register your domain with Google directly, by following the steps here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

However, attracting traffic and visitors to your site (including search engines) is more art than science, and there is no easy answer here for why you may not be seeing the results you had hoped for here.

This will help you to understand some of the basics of what you can do to increase the amount of traffic to your site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/

I also highly recommend these two free courses, one which will give you all kinds of ideas about how to improve the practice of blogging, and the other that explains SEO best practices in a way you can put into practice right away:

I also wanted to add that I think you are off to a great start! You’ve been steady blogging since you launched your site, so you’re on the right track. Getting noticed and building traffic can be more of a marathon than a sprint, so you may not see quick results, but with the info in the links above you will definitely see results over time!

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for answering my question. Now I understand how the WordPress reader works. I know all about SEO, so I’m eagerly waiting for Google to index all of my blog posts. It should not be long now.

Yeah, I’ve been getting a lot of subscribers, comments and likes on my blog and it feels I’ve done so without trying, so that’s great. Thank you for checking out my blog!

I shall try and change what shows up in the reader to encourage people to come and read instead of just seeing the post in the reader. Thank you 😊
