Visitors get encryption notice

We have had several messages that people say they get when going to comment or click on articles at our blog. It says something like the following statement. I don’t know if it is verbatim, but you get the idea. We aren’t sure when it started happening, but watched our stats go down considerably for a week and a half, and people stopped commenting too.. They are back up for 3 days, but we want to know if we should be concerned, and how to answer those that have had the problem. Just because they didn’t send a message, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen to them too. We would like to give details to eliminate fears of a virus or lack of security on the blog.

“Security Warning – You have requested an encrypted page that contains some unencrypted information. Information that you see or enter on this page could easily be read by a third party.”

I tried to duplicate it by logging out of admin, and couldn’t get it to do it for me.

    Thanks,

Most likely they are going to https:// instead of http:// .

Thanks for that information. I know that three of them most likely have our blog marked as a favorite or bookmark though, so it would be a normal saved click on their part rather than typing a new address into the browser. Is there any other reason than what you stated?

Not that I can think of. This is typically what you see when you try and access the public side of a blog here from a URL starting with https . Internet Explorer is famous for this warning. I can access sites via https on Safari, Firefox and Opera and never get this warning. IE can be a little paranoid at times.
