Visitors Getting Stuck on WordAds Videos
-
We’re receiving A LOT of complaints about visitors coming to our site and getting stuck on the wordads videos at the bottom of our articles.
What can be done to stop this from happening???
It just recently started in the past couple months.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Which browsers and versions of them are they using? I ask because I had no trouble using Edge and Firefox 57.
I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

@hagertony I’m not seeing any issues. When you say they’re getting stuck, what’s happening exactly? Send more details and we’ll investigate. Thanks!

I have the same problem on my blog and I am using Chrome. When the video starts you are pulled to the video and you cannot scroll back to the article until the video is over. Readers are complaining. americaswatchtower.com

Sorry to hear that. If anyone could get a screen capture that would be helpful. I will also try to duplicate the issue here and will notify our ads team in case others are seeing similar problems.

Okay. I talked to our ads team; here’s the information we’ll need, if you can get it:
For the person who saw the bad ad, see if you can find out:
1) The viewer’s device/browser and operating system.
2) Their IP address (they can go to whatismyip.com if they don’t know how to find this)
3) The exact URL of the page/post that showed the ad.
4) What was being advertised.
5) The URL that the ad takes them to.
6) If possible, a screenshot of the ad that hijacked the browser.
-
This is happening on almost every article on our website.
iMac Pro using Google Chome (Also does it in Safari/Firefox)
Spiriva

I’ve just updated the list of information I need. It now includes numbers, so you can number the items as you give them back to me.
Also to clarify, is this happening to you personally on your iMac Pro using Google Chome Safari, and Firefox? Or do you use that but your users are on something else?
Here’s the info we need from the person who has the problem.
0) A description of the problem (so we know we are talking about the same thing).
1) The viewer’s device, browser, and operating system.
(You can upload to your media library if the site is here, or upload and include a link to the image in your post).
Thank you in advance!

This is happening personally to me on the blog as well as readers.
0: When reading a post the video will pop up at the end of the post and you cannot read the post because it takes you to the bottom of the post. You cannot get back to the post until the video stops.
1: I am using my computer with Windows 8.1
2: This is my IP address. 24.62.245.181
3: It happens on all my posts but here is an example. https://americaswatchtower.com/2017/12/19/top-republicans-call-for-fbi-deputy-director-andrew-mccabe-to-be-fired/
4: The ads are different
5: Here is one site I am taken to. https://www.buypowercard.com/buypower-overview/?media=C3IG303AAM17020012546XXHHB&WT.mc_id=CRS_C_3IG_AA_0012546&external_id=CRS_C_3IG_AA_0012546&cmp=OLA_OLA_PROG_UNITS_0317I hope this helps. Thank you.

Thanks, I’ve reported that. Will let you know what I find out. If you can provide more details on what is being advertised (even if they are multiple products) and where the link goes, that will help a lot too.
-
@mpinkeyes @hagertony: I don’t see issues on the weblinks and sites you provided. Using latest Chromium and Firefox on Linux Mint 18.3 and Windows 10.
-
Thanks for including the link.
@staartmees we aren’t sure yet why these ads are showing sometimes and not others, but the questions we asked help us narrow things down a bit.

@supernovia: Has this issue been resolved? We are getting so many complaints from readers who say that their browsers are getting hijacked by the WordAds videos at the end of some of our articles. These videos start playing as soon as the page loads, force the browser to scroll down to them, and won’t allow the user to scroll back up until they finish playing. Could someone please explain why this is happening and how we can get rid of it? It makes our website look like a cheap spam site. It is unacceptable.
-
These are just two emails received from readers in the past 24 hours. We have worked hard on establishing the reputation of our site, and these video ads are making it look like some cheap Russian scam page. Please advice on whether this can be fixed.
“FYI, when using today’s link to look at news item the video advertisement you have inserted in the site seizes control and will not allow scrolling past…. result = not consulting website”
“The embedded video commercials in the newsletters are a big negative. I am forced to mute the thing and then wait until it finishes itself. Marketing rules?!?! Unacceptable, sir.”
-
@intelligencenews in some ways we ‘re having to deal with these on a case by case basis until the main issue is resolved.
Can you send these items?
