Visitors having problems with the Follow Blog widget

I have had a newsletter for 5 years and have moved it to a wordpress blog. I am trying to get my followers to sign up for the blog. Many people have signed up; however, I have received several emails from people who have had problems.
One person wrote this: When I clicked on ” sign me up” it tool me to a general sun up board, not one specific to your monthly newsletter. Is that right?
Another this:
Every time I have tried the sign me up button it gives me the following error. I would love to subscribe but it does not seem to be cooperating.WordPress.com
Your subscription did not succeed, please try again with a valid email address.Any recommendations for what I can tell these folks so that they can subscribe?

I can verify what you report and have tagged this thread for Staff attention so they are aware of the malfunctioning follow blog widget. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting. -
Hi Vicki,
Right above the “Sign me up” button there is a text-box; you need to enter your email in this box before clicking the button.
Please have your followers try that, and let me know if they have any further difficulty. Thanks!

I cannot locate the place that enables incorporation of a “follow me via email” widget onto my blog.
I am going around in circles looking for it. Please let me know where it is.
