Visitors vs crawlers
-
I use WP for my website – kaybyrnes.com, not for blogging. I use the Spy feature in Stats to see where my visitors are coming from … but I get LOTS of robot.txt hits from sites that appear to be search engine crawlers … I thought those didn’t get caught in my visitor count…why do they show up when I use the Spy list?

Embarrassed to say I don’t really know … someone set up the website for me using WP a few years ago but isn’t available for support anymore. Is there a way I can find the answer to your question? Thanks for the response – I appreciate the help … I’ve learned to rely on the kindness of strangers LOL…

Your stats plugin should be listed in the Plugins section of your blog’s Dashboard.
I’m curious, because it doesn’t sound like Jetpack, and definitely not a WordPress.com blog, and that’s all we can support here.

I’m definitely using WordPress… version 3.2.1 On my plugins page I see “Jetpack” – not activated. I see “StatPress” activated – version 1.4.1 thanks for reply – I’m just trying to figure out why I get so many robot.txt hits, and search engine crawlers showing up in my visitor details.

Unfortunately, we can only provide support for WordPress.com blogs or Jetpack here.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress via their Codex and Support Forums.

Ah …. OK, and thanks a gazilliion… I’ll see what I can find on the other side of the fence….
