Visits to my latest post are not being counted by WordPress stats

I noticed that my latest post, http://songbook1.wordpress.com/2014/01/17/baltimore-oriole/, suddenly fell out of the top ten posts and pages despite the fact that the total visitors to the post in the past two days exceeded the number of visitors during the same period of most of the others in the top ten. The post was published at 10:14 AM on 17 January, yesterday.

I saw two visits to the post counted by Feedjit by 6:35 AM, and another at 7:55 AM. However, when I checked the WP stats shortly thereafter the number of visits to the post was given as just one. I’ve check these stats periodically in the past and haven’t noticed much of a delay. A little while later the post reappeared in the top ten widget, though at #7 lower than it should have been, but WordPress stats still recorded just one visitor to the post. As of about 8:00 AM the total number of visits to the post over the past two days was better than all but three other posts or pages.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The total visits to the post by about 10:30 AM this morning for the past two days and the past 24 hours was 14, if I add the four I saw counted by Feedjit this morning to the 10 recorded by WP Stats yesterday. This total of 14 is higher, according to WP stats, than all but about six other posts or pages. It’s not presently listed among the top ten, though one page which has just 11 visits recorded over the past two days is currently ranked eighth.

I’ll tag this thread for Staff to examine your stats. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    Thanks, thistime :-)

  • Hi doc – I took a look at your stats, and everything looks good there. Please note that our stat counts will not necessarily match Feedjit or any other stat counter. All stat counters calculate hits differently, so none of them will reflect the exact same totals.

The top posts widget displays your top 10 posts within the last 48 hours, not of all time. Also, it takes awhile for changes to reflect in the widget, so this is not immediate.

    I hope this helps!

I’m aware that they may differ, but most of the time when I see a page view on Feedjit, I almost immediately find one added to the WP stat. There’s seldom much delay, usually no more than a minute or so. I don’t remember ever seeing a case before where of four visits (page views) counted by Feedjit only one was counted by WP stats. That happened this time.

The top posts widget displays your top 10 posts within the last 48 hours, not of all time.

What did say to make you think I thought it reflected the top posts and page “of all time”? I only mentioned stat totals for the last two days (I meant 48 hours) and for the last 24 hours.

    Correction:
By last “two days” I meant calendar days, in this case January 17th and 18th, not the last 48 hours, because I don’t have access to hourly stats from WordPress.

  • Hi doc,

There are a number of hits that we do not count in your stats that some other stat trackers might count. For example, we do not count:

    * Visits to uploaded documents and files
    * Visits from browsers that do not execute javascript or load images
    * GoogleBot and other search engine spiders
    * Visits you make to your own publicly available blog (when logged in to your account)
    * Visits by users that are logged in, and listed as admins on the blog

For this reason, there will always be discrepancies between our stats and any other stat measure, and the exact amount of these discrepancies can change over time.

Stats are meant to be an overall gauge of your traffic patterns. You have a very healthy amount of traffic that stays more or less at the same consistent level, so there’s really nothing to be concerned about. :)

As to the Top Posts, even within the last 48 hours, changes in the counts of how much traffic each post got are not immediately reflected in the widget. So your widget might not exactly match your Top Posts in your stats.

But you think Feedjit is counting these? The last two are irrelevant, since 1. I’m the only admin and user, and 2. though Feedjit does count some visits I make to my own site, I didn’t count these in the case at hand.

I have often watched visits be reflected within a minute or more. In this case there were 3 page views unaccounted for over a period of hours. If I see (via Feedjit) someone visiting post or page X from Albuquerque, I will usually see a page view added to the stats, for that specific post or page, within a minute or so.

    Okay, eurello

I’ll drop this for now, and just keep an eye out for a recurrence. I’m sure a lot of things which I’m not aware of might explain a small discrepancy now and then.
