I’m trying to put a link in a widget on my sidebar but can’t figure out how. Some research led me to the visual editor??? But I can’t find it.
Please help. And it infuriates me that the chat option seems to usually be closed. What did I pay for???
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

See http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/
All available widgets are under the Appearance menu, on your dashboard.

I strongly suggest using the step by step tutorial that Staff have linked to on the bottom of your Admin page http://learn.wordpress.com
re: this front page error
Nothing Found
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help.By default the front page of your blog displays all posts. The 404 (page not found) error message on the front page of the blog appeared because the Admin of the blog deleted the placeholder Hello World post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/ As soon as you publish a post, not a page it will disappear. Read the differences between Pages and Posts.

You might also consider opening the widget in the sidebar and copying and pasting all of that information onto a static About page.

I’m trying to put a link in a widget
Start by creating a draft post you will later delete.
This is the general link model:
<a href="URL HERE">Highlighted anchor text here</a>
This is the visual result but as it’s just an example it’s not actually linked to a page:
Highlighted anchor text hereEnter the anchor text you want to link to first.
Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text.
Next click the chain icon in the Visual editor and proceed to create the link.
Once you have done that then you switch to the Text (HTML) editor and copy the code. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/#switching-editors
Paste that code your copied into a text widget.
Lastly, delete the draft post.
