Visual editor freezes

Too often, when I am typing in the Visual Editor, it freezes. The cursor disappears and the vertical scrollbar stops working. Then, as maybe 10-20 seconds, the cursor reappears and I can resume typing.
Anyone know what’s causing this? Have a solution?

It could be during an autosave. If the post is long then it could take longer to save. Also since you are communicating over the internet there are a lot of things that can slow autosave down such as server loads at wordpress, high levels of traffic on the internet, slow proxy servers between you and wordpress and the list goes on.
Next time this happens, look over at the “publish” frame at the right of the editor window and see of the buttons are grayed, and also look at your browser status bar at the bottom. I think you will see that wordpress is doing an autosave on your post.

The solution – the only solution really – is to use an offline blog editor such as Windows Live Writer or Blogdesk for Windows, or Ecto for Mac. Ecto isn’t free, but it is reasonable at under $20.
