My visual editor icons have disappeared leaving just a blank square for each icon. When I try to activate any one of them after highlighting text there is no response. I now have to edit text in text mode which is very time consuming. Please help!

Hi Chris,
In order to help you we need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through what follows and report back.1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/

4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.

Visual editor icons still not loading on Edit Page
I’m using Safari 4.1.3. which is the most advanced for my old Mac and regularly clear cache and cookies. WordPress was fine until yesterday. I’m at a loss what to do next. -

If not, unfortunately WordPress.com (and other websites) may not continue to work in older versions of Safari due to the browser not recognizing javascript and other code.
I did have another user struggling with an older computer, and found a possible solution for her. Apparently some folks have modified the open source code that runs Firefox so that it will work on older browsers.
