Visual editor panel has "p" at the bottom—what is that?

  I continue to struggle with the new visual editor and its wretched paste function (offering options of no HTML at all or all the HTML, unlike the more helpful and user-friendly paste that allowed some HTML through while stripping the rest—the current action is a big step backward in terms of supporting common user tasks).

  My specific question is a “p” that seems to reside in a separate panel at the bottom of the visual editors panel for entering text. What is that “p”? I clicked it and got “p >> a”, which told me nothing. In looking at the text view, I couldn’t see any changes.

  I am sure that this is amply documented and described someplace, but my forum searches and reading have turned up nothing. I bet there’s an on-line manual for the editor. A link to that might be sufficient.

  But if you have a short answer in addition to the link, I’m interested.
