visual editor tags for bold and italic disappear with preview
-
Hello, I’m a programmer new to WordPress. I’m running Mac OSX 1.5.6 under Safari. I’ve managed to post a few entries, but I’ve hit a snag. I want to edit a page, make one word italic, and publish the revision. However, when I review the change, no italics appear, and when I return to the visual editor page, the italics are no longer there (nor in HTML). I’ve tried the save button, and repeatedly cleared the browser cache, to no evident effect.
Thanks in advance! One C++ question answered free for the person who solves this first!

Sure, the blog url appears to be http://phhht.wordpress.com/, but I think problem is in me, the visual editor, and preview, not the blog.
-
No, we ALWAYS need a link to the blog, since about 30% of questions come from people with externally-hosted blogs that work quite differently. We always need to see the blog.
Now, are you pasting in from an external text source? If so, select the Paste as Plain Text option, THEN italicize whichever words you want.

-
Very odd then. Can you give us a link to the particular page and let us know the word you’re italicizing? I can only think there must be some code overriding it and we’ll need to look at the page source to find it.

Here’s what I do in more detail: dashboard->posts->edit. The visual editor window appears with the existing text in it. I choose my word, push the I button, the word changes font. I then submit the change by clicking the Update Post button.
Immediately, the visual editor re-writes itself, undoing the italics. This has got to be ignorance in action.

Raincoaster,
The url where I am working is
http://phhht.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=37&message=1I’m not sure how to give you a url to a particular post, but the one in question is the latest entry, and the words I want to italicize are Origins of Order.

Thanks, I’m not able to see that link because it’s a dashboard link. If you haven’t published the page yet only staff will be able to see it. If you’ve published the page, it should show up in your pages widget, and you can grab the URL from the browser bar.

This is curioser. When I go to the pages widget, it doesn’t show any published pages. But I am able to read the blog (including the page in question) from a different machine using Firefox.

I’m missing something, namely the distinction between a post and a page. Back to the documentation.
Thanks a lot, Raincoaster.

No help there; a page is a static object and can’t be published; a post is a post. Sorry for the confusion.
I also found the url to the post in question:

And Raincoaster, I see I might sound snotty with those thanks. I do mean sincere thanks.

Anyone coming to this thread that is experiencing this problem, please tell us which browser and browser version you are using. I’ve tried to duplicate this in IE8, FF 3.5.2 and Safari 4 on Windows XP, and I’ve tried to recreate it on Safari 4, FF 3.5.2, SeaMonkey and Opera on Mac and cannot reproduce the problem.
