"Visual/Text" Always Used to be Visible
-
I frequently swap between “visual” and “html” (which used to be “visual” and “text”) when entering and revising my blog posts.
The visual/text tabs used to be at the top of the page, and my text would scroll under them, so I could always swap, wherever I was in the text.
Now, however, the visual/html tabs scroll with the text so are invisible unless my focus is on the first few lines of my post. This makes swapping very cumbersome (in fact, swapping is not too difficult, but returning focus back to where I was is very difficult).
Help, please.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, where are you writing your posts, in the WP Admin Editor or in the Calypso/Blue Editor?
Also can you say a little bit about your writing set up? Are you using a computer or laptop, a tablet, etc.?
-
OK I can see this is an issue in the Calypso/Blue Editor as the tool bars scroll down but the Visual/HTML tabs are stationary and slide up under the tool bars. This doesn’t happen for me in the WP Admin Editor.
I’ll tag this for Staff attention.

Hi there,
There hasn’t been any changes to the scrolling behaviour of the Visual/HTML tabs in the new editor recently. Can you please confirm the editor you’re using as @justjennifer asked?
In the new editor the cursor also doesn’t remember the position if you switch from visual to HTML, but jumps back to the top of the post causing one to lose focus in any case. So I’m wondering if you’re perhaps now using the new editor where you used WP-Admin before?

Hello there,
Thanks for taking the trouble to contact me.
My husband asked the question after I’d complained that I couldn’t post like I used to and asked if he cold find the original site. I’ve no idea which editor it was, but the following address used to get me to a site offering ‘add new’ to click on.
https://mrsgrumpywrites.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
Now this just gets me to ‘Welcome to Reader’.
I can go into my own blog and click on ‘Write’ but it’s very cumbersome compared with the old ‘add new’ site and I’d like to get back to the old one if I could only find it. Sorry I can’t be more specific. I just write a diary really, and then started posting to keep in touch with our daughter when she moved to Australia, so I’m not a blogger by nature and just baffled by the new technology. Was doing fine until it all changed. Will have to continue to post by clicking on ‘write’ for now, but hoping someone will be able to give me a pointer to a better (the old) site.
Yours hopefully,
Mrs Grumpy -
I have no idea which editor I’m using, I’m afraid. How do I tell? For five years I’ve just opened the WP site & dumped a block of text into it from Word (in which I do most of my composition), then tidy it up; now, something’s changed. That makes me look like a complete fool, but I’m just a simple blogger.
I’m using a Windows 10 laptop
Thanks for your input so far.

PS Just posted another day using ‘write’ and found I had to redo all the italics. I think this sometimes happens when it’s on HTML (used to be ‘text’ on the ‘add new’ site) rather than on ‘visual’ but it’s annoying all the same.

The link you provided brings you directly to “Add a new post” in the WP Admin editor, where the HTML/Text tabs are always visible. You don’t need to then click on “Write” in the Admin bar, which brings you to the new Editor.
However, this sounds like it might also be a browser issue. Try logging out of WordPress.com, clearing your browser’s cache and cookies (which will also log you out of any other site you are logged in to), closing your browser and then opening it and logging back in to WordPress.com.
When you copy from Word, you’ll want to follow this guide to paste it into the Editor so that no extra junk code comes over: https://en.support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/
Let us know how you get on with that.

Hooray! Brilliant. It was a browser problem. Back in business. Thank you very much for your help.
-
You’re welcome and thanks for coming back and letting us know. Glad it was an “easy” fix. :)
Best wishes.
-
the link I provided used to take me directly to Admin Editor – no longer does. I’ll try clearing everything as you suggest and let you know if it works. Thanks for the advice

Provided you are logged into your account, the https://mrsgrumpywrites.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php link should always take you to a new post in the WP-Admin editor. The Write button, on the other hand, will always take you to the new editor at wordpress.com/posts, so if you prefer the older one, please bookmark that link to easily get to it.
Can you confirm that https://mrsgrumpywrites.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php works after clearing the browser cache? From your last reply it looks like you might still be having trouble with this.
-
Hi @kokkieh – which brings up a question that I’ve wondered about. :)
If someone clicks that notice in the WP Admin Editor that can’t be dismissed, “There’s an easier way to create on WordPress.com. Switch to the improved editor” are they then forever routed to the new Editor or is this a cookie thing?
-
The direct link to the WP-Admin editor should always go to the WP-Admin editor. We don’t set a cookie for this, and there’s no hidden switch that gets flipped either. I just tested this to make sure, and have no problems going back to the WP-Admin editor after clicking the improved editor link.
If the problem is in the browser, I’d suspect the cache in this case.

-
No – I experienced the new ‘improved’ (no it wasn’t) editor and was thankful to escape from it, though I can’t tell you now how I did it. You’ll just have to experiment, but you sound as if you’re much more techno-minded than I am
-
-
Yes, it did, thank you (work after clearing the browser) – emailed justjennifer to that effect.
Thank you for your help as well
