Vodpod

I’ve been reading about Vopod but am wondering… what is the difference between Vopod and just showing a video? Is it that only Vopod can show videos in the Sidebar Vodpod widget?
Also, to show videos in the Sidebar via Vodpod, must one first put that video in a Vodpod Gallery or some place that is available through Vodpod?

Since wordpress doesn’t allow wordpressers to directly embed video in the text editor, we use VODPOD to post the videos. Such as embeds from MSNBC, and um…other video players cant remember names right now. Basically videos besides youtube and google.
TO your second question, when I used to use the widget, I just added videos to vodpod and then they would automatically appear on the widget so I dont think its necessary to the gallery, though it is necessary if you wanted a certain video to appear first and what not.

Does the term ”embed“ mean something special? When I type in a YouTube hyperlink to a video, then that video goes into a post. Is it that this process is not called embedding??

As I understand, you can embed videos from youtube, and Google without vodpod. You use vodpod to put (embed) videos from other places onto your blog.
I suppose I’m wondering as well. I have only one video on my site, and it’s from youtube. -
If there is a difference between EMBEDDING and just typing in the hyperlink, then the question becomes: If I embed a Youtube video, does that weigh down/slow down my blog? Does just supplying the hyperlink a ”faster/lighter“ way to go?
If so, then why would anyone want to embed a video from Youtube or anywhere else??????

I think that if you embed a video (youtube is the only one I did), then the youtube player displays with its start-up image on your blog. If you just make a link to youtube (or any other site or blog) then it displays as a text hyperlink. No image to indicate what it looks like, but quicker to load. I believe that the hyperlink would not slow down a modem connection.
Lots of people have higher internet connections and the youtube (and Google videos) have images that would entice folk to click on them to see more.

Video players come with hyperlinks and embed codes. For example, youtube have a hyperlink which you can find in the address bar, but there is also a long code thats referred to as the embed code. You dont need to use the embed code at all to post the youtube videos on wordpress. If you use other videoplayers, then what you need to do is copy the embed code (which is the long code not hyperlink) and then paste that code onto vodpod and then send it to your wordpress blog.
I don’t embedding a code would make wordpress go any slower

goto vodpod.com and sign up for an account. Then if you find a video you like elsewhere on another site, then you copy the embed code and goto your vodpod account, and paste the embed code into the thingy, and upload it to your blog. Its pretty self explanatory when you actually see what vodpod is all about. HTH
