Vulgar advertising front page

Hey! In the last week, I have received vulgar advertising on my front page, which covers the posts. New blocks with advertising have also appeared at the bottom of the front page (which can be clicked away). The advertisement also reappears inside the posts. I have the free version of WordPress and have previously had some small advertising at the bottom of the posts, which WordPress informs about in the editing, so this is something completely different. I do not know if it is WordPress that has gone bananas, guess it comes from outside? Does anyone know how to get rid of it? I use a Mac and do not have great technology skills.:)

From what you tell, I would say your browser has been infected by ad-malware. You can check and clean your computer yourself by downloading malwarebytes, https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download

Thanks @staartmees for quick reply! I downloaded Malwarebytes.com and scanned, but it found nothing that was infected on the computer. :/

I would also say that this is some sort of problem coming from your computer, as I am unable to see the ads which you describe. That makes me think the issue is solely on your computer.
I also think it is malware – please try a different security protection such as Avast and see if it picks up anything.

Thanks staff-doublebassd! Avast found nothing either. Maybe a stupid question: the ad is visible from several devices (my computer, Iphone etc.) and for the visitor I have asked, can it still be local to the computer or can the problem be somewhere else?

Hi there, Not everyone sees the same ads when visiting ad-supported WordPress.com websites.
Can you and/or your visitor grab a screenshot of what you’re seeing and upload it to your site’s Media Library? That would help here. Once you do that, let Staff know and they’ll take a look.

Hi! Thanks @justjennifer! I just added a screenshot to the Media library. The ad you see labeled “Sponsored Content” is what I mean. It’s never been there before. You can see the same in the posts, after the advertisement that is usually there.
Now that I’ve put the pictures in the Media Library, how do I let staff know …? :) -

A friend of mine just looked at the code and found a widget called “outbrain” that he thinks “pulls in” the ad. I uploaded a screenshot of the code in the Media library as well. Thanks.

Hi there,
The “Sponsored Content” ads by Outbrain are part of the advertising that appears on free sites on WordPress.com. These display below the first post on the front page, and at the bottom of posts in the single-post view, same as regular WordPress.com ads.
If you think a specific ad is inappropriate, please take a screenshot of the ad, and send that, along with the URL the ad links to, via the form at https://wordpress.com/support/about-these-ads/. Then our ads team can review the ad, and follow up with Outbrain if needed.
