Vulnerability Scan by Domain Provider(our university)

    Hi all,

We’re thinking of hosting a site on WordPress’s servers, but have our university sub-domain mapped to it (a requirement for using any CMS).

Our IT department has advised us that if we do so, that site will be subjected to regular vulnerability scans by the university, and if found to be vulnerable will be blocked by the university as part of preventive measures.

The thing is, we’re not sure if WordPress as our website host will be alright with the regular vulnerability scans by our university.

Can someone please advise? Thanks in advance

    hi,

I have tagged modlook for a Staff to help you with this.

  • Hi there,

There’s no way for us to prevent your university from scanning your site with us.

We’re also not worried – WordPress.com is a managed hosting environment, and we already do ongoing security scans of all sites hosted on our servers. Additionally we actively block the types of HTML and JavaScript code that can be used to insert malware into a site – you literally cannot even add that type of code to a site, even if you’re trying to use it legitimately. WordPress.com is not susceptible to the vulnerabilities that self-hosted sites are, caused by outdated plugins and themes, because we make sure the software is always up to date, and only sites on the Business Plan can install plugins to begin with.
