“Wait There is More” question

  • Unknown's avatar

I only learned the other day that instead of having a really long article on the main pageof my blog I could use the “wait there is more” button. I have a question before I try this – do I need to set up a different page before I start posting a new article that I intend to use this “wait there is more” button with?? Or does WordPress take care of all that for me??? BTW, where does the rest of this article go anyway??? Oh, and while I’m at it, will the catagories and everything else I’ve set up so far work just the same??? Or will I have to reset something??? One last question and I promise to quit, if I really like this “wait there is more” option can I go back and edit all my article with this button and, thereby, clean up my main blog page??? Sorry for all the questions, I just like to know what all I’m dealing with.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

It all works just the same. Type the whole post out, then put the cursor where you want to make the cut and use the dotted line icon, #13, and that’s where your “read more” will go.

You can put it on all your blog posts, but if you do that you will annoy a lot of your readers who don’t want to be constantly clicking Read More. Usually the only blogs that use Read More on all posts have advertising and get more money the more people click. But only one in ten people WILL click through a link, so your overall readers will go down.

Hi, there. Yes, I like knowing things in advance too. I’ve always been one to read the manual. :)

To split your post, simply hit enter to move the cursor down to a blank space and click the split post button. It will insert everything for you. Nothing special needs to be done on your part. When you preview the post, you won’t see the split because you’re looking at it as a single post. The “more” only shows up on the front page of your blog.

If you want to see what I mean, click on my name to go to my blog. Scroll down a couple to beef stew. You’ll see the “more.” Then click on the title of the post and you’ll see it’s not there. That’s how people see it who come to it via search engine (or by clicking on its listing in the sidebar) because they’re going to a specific post, not the blog in general.

    But wait! There’s more!

Hmmmmmmm!!! From what you say, this “Wait there is more button” may not be a good idea after all. I’m only now getting my readership, ever so slowly, built up again after a long absense (Moved half-way across country). Think I will keep it as is for now.

I thank you very much for your time BUT ESPECIALLY FOR YOUR ADVICE. WordPress is so cool!!!! I get to sound off on any number of subjects and people actually come around to read my stuff. Last time I heard, having this much fun was a crime!!! Just kidding!!!

Ellaella – – Think I will keep it as is for now – only because of the readership issue “raincoaster” spoke of. Right now that is a major issue for me. I do thank you for your assistance though.

You’re welcome. You should be fine with just text. I take page loads into account since I’m heavy on large photos. Rain’s advice is sound, as always, but everyone’s blog content and readership is different. Most of my traffic is from search engines, subscribers and links so most people never see the “more” and those who come via the url are either interested in a recipe or not. If they are, they click.
