WAMPSERVER stopped working after a week

    I installed and used WAMPSERVER for a week and created a lovely website on my laptop. I tried to open it this morning and it was red. The log files for PHP and MySQL had a line that it could not write to the hosts file.

    PHP Warning: chmod(): Permission denied in C:UsersClaireDocumentswamp64scriptsconfig.inc.php on line 68
    Impossible to modify the file C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts to be writable
    The file C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts is not writable

    Also in the MySQL log this appeared ‘The file C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts is not writable

    After looking for a solution, I saw that this hosts file needed to have these lines in:
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    ::1 localhost
    It had these lines in but commented out. I tried everything but could not write to the file. I saw this is a common problem and in the end had to save it as something else and then rename it.

    Still nothing is working. Any suggestions?
