Wandering text creeps to the right

    (1) My last four posts have turned out with text that goes on and on to the right side of the page.
    (2) The right hand sidebar is also missing for those posts. To see the sidebar I have to hit the Return key many times.

I must admit that in trying to get text straightened out in the post with the map of Israel, I fiddled with HTML by putting in
</br> to keep the first sentence of the text from showing up next to the map and underneath the map.

But maybe that has nothing to do with it. But why am I feeling guilty……………. 8-(

    Correction: That should read:
</br> up there, and not just </br>.

Not seeing it in either Safari or in Firefox.

Open the posts that are having the problem in the editor. Select everything in the text window and then from the format pulldown on the left of the lower row of icons, select “paragraph” and then click the update button.

Dear Sacred Path — This is disturbing for being so very ODD.

    1. I am using Safari and I clearly see three posts (the top three) that have the text lines continuing on and on to the right and not returning to keep a proper right hand margin.

    2. I followed your instructions about selecting everything in text window and clicking Paragraph. I did that, and then I clicked Update. When I clicked the Check The Post link, the problem appeared corrected.

    3. However! When I left that “See the post” page and went to HomePage view, the three posts resumed their original long, long lines which ran through where the sidebar belongs.

    4. And those three posts do not have a right sidebar.

HERE IS ONE OF THE POSTS. YOU CAN SEE HOW THE TEXT GOES ON AND ON AND THE RIGHT SIDEBAR IS MISSING.

    -Peregrine, no longer flying.

Not seeing it. This is what I see in Safari 5.0.4

Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart Safari and try again.

  • Unknown's avatar

We are looking at the home page of my blog and seeing very different things. Here is another screen shot of the post on Israel:

    <img class=”alignleft size-full wp-image-28435″ title=”Pesky Emotional Republican-3″ src=”http://peregrine5700.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/pesky-emotional-republican-3.jpg” alt=”” width=”645″ height=”742″ />

This is taken from my home page.

I’m thinking: How on earth can I fix this if the problem doesn’t show up on other people’s browsers?!!!???

I forgot to add that you said: “Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart Safari and try again.”

And I did it and the problem persists. I quit Safari more than once and hit Clear Cache more than once.

    -Peregrine, lost all feathers

Well, I just went and used my Chrome browser, and on Chrome everything looks fine, correct.

I am so lost if you are seeing no problem on Safari, whereas my Safari shows those wandering lines of text and no sidebar.

I’m not seeing the issue either on the main page, or on the single post page. Everything looks good to me.

Did you try the cookie and cache dance I suggested?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just checked in Opera and Firefox as well and no issues on those browsers either.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear SacredPath—-
I did not clear my cookies. How do I do that?

    -Peregrine

  • Unknown's avatar

I am very concerned now. I found out how to clear Cookies and I did so. Then I looked at my blog home page and everything looked great. I was about to write you the happy ending memo, but then I checked again, because things seem to change a lot on this blog…….. and now things are all bad again.

Repeat: At one point they all looked perfect and my sidebar was there, and now the sidebar is gone and the sentences creep to the right edge of the page.

Look at what I am seeing now:

    <img class=”alignnone size-medium wp-image-28437″ title=”1Pesky Emotional Republican-4″ src=”http://peregrine5700.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/1pesky-emotional-republican-4.jpg?w=260″ alt=”” width=”260″ height=”300″ />

And this is beginning to make me afraid that my blog is corrupted somehow by that security issue that is in the news page. OK, not that bad, but I am concerned and I am going to go to bed right now. Too stressful.

To to the “safari” menu in the menu bar, go to “reset safari” and then make sure that cookies and cache are selected and click “reset.”

  • Unknown's avatar

I forgot to say that I did clear my cookies. I Googled it and I did it and quit Safari and opened it again and cleared cache again and………. problem persisted.

Goodnight now. I hope tomorrow is a better day for solving this problem.

The W3C validator is claiming you have a bunch of open tags on your main page.

Go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “save changes.”

Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, switch from the visual tab to the HTML tab (waiting for the page to refresh) and then switch back to the visual tag (again waiting for it to refresh), and then click “update post.” Do this with each post where you see a problem.

  • Unknown's avatar

I was so hopeful when you came back with a new plan, and I did what you said…….. and the problem persists. 8-( 8-( 8-(

When you say, “…waiting for the page to refresh” I hope you didn’t mean a long long time. I clicked, waited for maybe seven seconds, and then clicked back to either the Visual or the html.

I am going to bed. Thank you so very much for sticking with me and trying to fix this problem. It’s not that I am sad. It’s that I am a little bit scared that something is wrong with my ….. whatever. With my blog, with my browser.

I decided to give it one more shot so I quit Safari and clicked onto my blog. Now it is worse. Now there is no right sidebar at all. 8-(

And now I really am going to bed.

Thank you again for being so There and So Supportive.

Thu, Apr 14, 2011 10:14 AM PST (Now Thursday morning)

Bottom line: It has gotten worse. How?

Last night I figured that if I simply deleted those three posts with the creeping-to-the-right-margin text, then I would just be done with the problem.

I was wrong. The creeping text persisted with the new First Post. This post about malls in China was fine up to that point where I deleted the three posts after it. Now it has become the first, topmost post with the same problem’

Here is a possible clue, re-stated: Last night, before this problem arose, I made a post with a picture in it. The text was supposed to be below the picture, but instead, after I hit the Publish link, the text crept up to the right of the picture, creating a format that I did not like.

So I clicked the HTML tab and found where the picture ended and my text began. After the ending of the image HTML, I typed ”
</br> ” I figured that that HTML would stop the text from creeping up the right margin of the image. I was wrong.

At that point I went to the Forum for your help.
And here now, this morning, I am with the same problem, but minus the three posts that I so naively deleted, thinking that with those posts would also disappear the formatting problem.

I hope someone can figure this out, but I would bet that this is about my improper use of HTML; I admit that I know only about ”
</br> ” and bolding and italicizing (and even those are not always the same).

Above that it should read ”
    </br> ” Not just “br”

    -Peregrine

Something is wrong with the way the formatting works here. I typed the complete Bee Are Bee Are but the WordPress typist entered it incorrectly as Bee Are

    Just kidding
