Want a permanent custom URL for images!!

  Hi!

  I am running a blog for a group of illustrators and one feature I’ve been working on is a link gallery made of thumbnails of each artist’s work.

  What I would LIKE to do is find a way to embed a custom URL into an image PERMANENTLY. I have the images displaying randomly in the sidebar, but when you click on them it only loads the image itself, and with option to have the thumbnails reroute to each respective artist’s URL. In another instance I want the images to all display randomly so no one has more exposure than anyone else, but again, clicking on them will only bring you to the image, not a permanent custom URL.

  Is there a way to make this happen? Some one suggested it might be possible through meta-data?

  ANY help would be so greatly appreciated!!!

  There is no way to modify permalinks at WordPress.com. You CAN modify them at WordPress.org, but http://pandorayoung.wordpress.com/ is a WordPress.com blog.

  I’m unclear by what you mean by “permanent custom URL”. Do you mean a page containing that image? Then when you upload it, just select “link to attachment page” but the URL is still not customizable. It is automatically generated, but unique to that image on a page.

  Hi there! Thanks VERY much for the quick replies!!

  Here is the blog I am speaking of: http://blogs.eciad.ca/illustrationclub/
  And it is WordPress.org, not .com.

  This page (http://blogs.eciad.ca/illustrationclub/ills-skills/) will show you what I am talking about. We have a bunch of thumbnails but if I display them in random order I lose the ability to use them as links, and vice versa.

  On the side bar you can see the other feature I mentioned, a random artist thumbnail. While I can have them display at random, they will only link back to themselves, not anything else.

  I would like to make it so that, wherever these images are on the site, they will always link to that artist’s external portfolio. Is that called permalinking? (Sorry, I’m brand new:) )

  Also, I found this plug in that I think would actually do the trick, can anyone comment?
