want a post in history, but I don't want to "publish" it to anyone but myself
-
I want to have a post in the history of my blog, but not actually publish it now. I am creating separate posts for each category item in a custom menu. beets, carrots, potatoes, etc. One post for each. I do not want to publish, per se, these posts, as they are just listing of recipes. But I want them to be able to be linked to in a custom menu. I have set the custom menu up (Recipes) with a sub trial of beets. The beets blog post is in edit format, but I want people to see it in a final format but not actually publicize this is a true blog post to go out to all subscribers’ emails and Facebook. Just too much – I’ll be doing one for each (many) veggie – suggestion?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
If I understand correctly what you are trying to do, you might find it easier to create pages for each recipe category, rather than posts. Publishing a new page won’t flood your subscribers’ emails, and you’d have the page available to add recipes to at will.
Is there a reason you are using posts instead of pages for your recipe suggestions?

Well, I was thinking I wanted to utilize the tags. I currently can’t tag each post with one veggie, because each post has contained a weeks worth of menus, and many recipes, highlighting many veggies.
I want the best way for someone to search by individual veggie. If I only tag these new posts with one veggie, my vision was two things:
The tag cloud widget would be called Farm Fresh, and have veggie names (tags) underneath. People could click in these, taking them to the post listing all recipes I’ve ever included for a particular veggie. Also, using custom menus, I can have a sidebar menu called recipes, with each veggie listed under here, and the link when pushed goes to the individual veggie post. Redundant of above…
And can’t I add recipes to each post as well, just hitting update, not posting it?
With your Page idea, my other pages are at the top, so I assume this one would go here too. But would be not associated with tags or the tag cloud?
Thanks for brainstorming with me!

Hi there,
You are right that you can’t tag pages. However, you could still have your custom menu Recipes, which you can still include in the sidebar. You just add the individual veggie pages to the custom menu instead of the individual veggie posts.
It looks like you’ve already tagged many of your old posts with veggie names. Clicking on a tag for, for example, kale, will bring up not just the post with kale recipes, it will bring up every other post you’ve ever tagged with kale. There’s no way to force the recipe post to sort to the top either.
Best!
