Want an image in post excerpt
-
How can I get an image in the excerpts of posts? It shows them on the Sela demo but they don’t automatically load in for me.
I’ve just moved to the theme Sela – it’s fantastic, except on my blog page images aren’t included in the excerpts, even if they are at the very top of the page. And I don’t want to use a featured image because of their size and positioning on the page, but I tried setting those up too just in case and that didn’t work either.
(My blog is currently private for the work I’m doing so you may not be able to see it.)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi.
Could you explain a little more of what you are trying to do? Without seeing your site, I want to make sure I’m understanding correctly.
When you look at the demo site, are you having trouble with the featured images that appear above the excerpts on the homepage (the sections labeled Full-Width Page, Grid Page, Default Template), or are you talking about the images that appear with the blog posts on https://selademo.wordpress.com/blog/?
I am a forum volunteer, so I am not able to see your site since it is marked private. Is it possible for you to take a screenshot and post the link? https://cloudup.com and https://www.dropbox.com allow you to share screenshot links.

I am having I think the same issue. Below is my site and I have post excerpts set as opposed to viewing the whole thing on the home page and I want the first image associated with the post to appear above or below the preview text. Do you know how I can set that?

It is exactly the same problem as seansskillet! My blog page looks like that, post excerpts that I would like to also display the first image from the post.
Yes, I’m talking about the images that appear with the blog posts on https://selademo.wordpress.com/blog/. I can’t get any images to show.

@seansskillet – The answer below is specific to @maidenvoyagedotcom’s site and theme. Please try this for your site, but if it doesn’t work, please post another thread and we’ll take a look. It’s easier to keep track of different sites/issues if they are in their own thread.
@maidenvoyagedotcom – Here’s how the images work for Sela:
When you select the excerpt option, it will only display the featured image and not any of the images that are included in the blog post.
You’ll need to select the Full Post option from the Content Options menu in the customizer if you want images to show.
Now, once you do that, you can still edit your posts so that only some of the content shows by using the More Tag to manually place a break. You can read about how the More Tag works at https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/.
You’ll want to make sure to place the images that you want to show on the homepage above the more tag.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I just wanted to mention an alternative to adding a More tag on each full post.
Both of your themes (Sela & Hemingway Rewritten) have an option to display post excerpts automatically via the Customizer’s Content Options panel.
If you set that to display excerpts, you could manually add an image (and other HTML) in the excerpt code — you could grab the necessary image HTML by flipping the editor to HTML view. This route might be a little more cumbersome, but I just wanted to mention it as another option.
Example with dummy code:
