Want an old username back
-
I want an old username that I deleted back. Can WordPress give it back to me?
-
Have you tried to change your username by following the steps shown on this support doc: http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/ ?
-
Yes. I have. It says that I can’t register it as it is already in use. However, I can’t seem to retrieve it.
Apparently, if you have changed your username in the past, you can’t get it back. That’s what I read on the forums here.
But I want that particular username back. Is there anyway to do so?
-
What’s the username that you want back? I’ll check to see if that username is still registered on WordPress.com.
-
How will you do that? I don’t want to post it here yet. If you tell me the process, I will check myself.
-
Ok. Visit this webpage to see if the username already exists: forums.wordpress.com/profile/[the username]
-
Yes, thank you, it’s there! How do I log into it?
I have lost access to the password and email address associated with it, both, of course. How do I log in to it now?
-
I’ll tag this for staff assistance so that they can try and get you with your old username again.
-
Yes, please, please! If there is a staff member available, I’d like to email them with a request. Or have them email me so I can confirm my identity. Thanks so much!
-
I’ve tagged this for staff support so they should get back to you by leaving a comment on this forum thread as soon as possible. Make sure that you’re subscribed to this topic so you know when staff get back to you.
Please be patient and see if a member of staff gets back to you. If they don’t get back to you within the next 24-48 hours, you can email them at support@wordpress.com
Hope this helps,
Tom -
Oh, thank you so much, Tom! You’ve saved me a night’s sleep. I really wanted that username back. I will do what you have said: wait for them till a day or two and then email them there. Thank you for the help once again!

I want an old username that I deleted back. Can WordPress give it back to me?
The answer is found here.
Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use. If you just want to show your name differently please only change your Display Name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/

I have asked you politely to stop posting half-assed, incorrect answer and misleading non-answers based on speculation. I asked you to post only answers you can backup with support doc links or links to correct answers the regular Volunteers and Staff have previously provided.Your free forming here is misleading and worse still you are making us Volunteers with correct answers to provide slow down when it comes to helping others because we have to go behind you like following a baby and correct your wrong answers. Stop it!
Register another blog and make it private. Lurk and start a collection of links to answers to common questions being asked, and get up close and personal with the support docs for about 3 months. After lurking and learning you will be able to provide valuable help rather than driving us Volunteers crazy.

Good news! I am sick and now have to work my way through threads and correct wrong answers rather than creating and publishing two new posts for my blogs. I am NOT happy with you.

@culturearchives-Sorry to advise that your initial answer was correct.
Apparently, if you have changed your username in the past, you can’t get it back. That’s what I read on the forums here.
You indeed will not be able to recover a deleted username.
@tt feel better soon, tt.

Hey, but why can’t I email support@wordpress.com as Tom suggested? I really want that username back, and my member profile shows that the profile is still active. I’m sure there is a way to re-activate it and return it if I request them.
-
@culturearchives – Unless there’s recently been a major policy change since tt’s above reply https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/want-an-old-username-back?replies=19#post-1583239 Deleted means deleted. Best wishes.
@tt-I find a hot toddy works wonders, or at least makes one less aware of one’s misery. :)
