want background image to cover screen

  Hi. I am new to wp. I have uploaded a photo as the background image. I would like the background photo to cover the entire screen. Right now, it is a little smaller than the screen, so there is white space around the sides and at the bottom. Three questions: 1. how do I get the photo to cover the entire screen, no white space at edges? 2. if it doesn’t cover the entire screen, how do I control the color that does show at the edges? (when previewing custom design, it was at least brown as part of color scheme; once I purchased custom design, the white space at edges changed to a dull white, and I don’t see how to change it) 3. If I get the background image to cover whole screen as I view it on my laptop, will it continue to cover whole screen on other viewing devices?
