want cropped thumbnail to open full sized image in wordpress.com oxygen theme

  Hello, I am using the Oxygen theme in wordpress.com. I would love some help to have a custom cropped thumbnail (I know how to do this) to open my full sized, uncropped image. If I crop it and save then when you click on it in the blog it goes to the same cropped image but just larger. Can’t figure out how to have the 2 images different.

  I should add, that the thumbnail images are in an image gallery on a “page”.
