Want guided transfer but told my domain isn't eligible..?

    I have been thinking for some time about leaving wordpress and moving to self hosting.
    I purchased my domain through one of the wordpress recommended sites and then tried to purchase a “guided transfer” but the drop down window says that my domain isn’t eligible for that upgrade.
    SO confused… help?

    Purchasing a domain name is not the same as paying for a host. If you have not paid a company to host your site, and also have not installed WordPress.ORG software to make it function, then there is no way to transfer your content to a hosted site.

    A domain name you purchased through WordPress.COM (or from someone else) is like a pseudonym or nickname. If that is what you paid for, then your site is still hosted for free on WordPress.COM.

    If you want to host a site yourself, then you must have a domain name, a host (GoDaddy, NetworkSolutions, or one of these: http://get.wp.com/hosting/ , or one many many others), and the software to make the site function from WordPress.ORG.

    This could be the reason that you cannot purchase a guided transfer. If you have indeed paid someone to host your site, and have installed WordPress.ORG software, the please feel welcome to ask more questions.
