want info about basic service

word press was recommended to me, but I’m not sure a blog is what I need. I was told the site would be more of a “net” than a blog. this is not about me or any specific person or thing. it is an effort to connect a specific type of traveler/enthusiast. info would be uploaded daily by participants or other interested partys and then create a searchable data base, for all. a tool for folks in separate areas to connect. I do not want to create a forum…… any direct connection would be email to email, or phone.

IMHO you need to read this comparison first http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ and then hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up a WordPress.org http://wordpress.org/ install to achieve what you want.

On WordPress.com, you can create a website that has no blog feature, if you wish. All content is searchable via a search box on your site and will be indexed by major search engines assuming you choose to make the content public.
