want my old password back

Every time I try to comment on a wordpress site, I’m asked to log in, even though I deleted my blog over a year ago. So, fine, whatever, it doesn’t happen very often. But I can never remember my password, and have to change it every time. I would really like to be able to use a password I’ll remember – one I use for a few other accounts so I’m used to typing it automatically – but because i used it once, your dumb site won’t let me reset to that one. Is there a way to clear my password history somehow so that I can use a password I’ll actually remember and stop having this problem?

  • Sorry to hear about the issues with loggining into your account. Unfortunately you can’t get to use your old password back. You definitely shouldn’t be using the same password for different websites. If somebody hacks one of your account, they can potentially get to all your sites with the same password. Please don’t reuse passwords.

You need to start using a Password Manager. The password manager creates and stores unique passwords for each of your sites and you lock the password manager with a Master password. The master password is the only password you have to remember ever. Every thing is stored with encryption in the password.

Try Keepass or 1Password. I personally use 1Password as my password manager and can’t recommend it enough.
