Want panel look for posts
-
Using Twenty Ten. Would like to make footer visible on initial screen (making body therefore short).
Can I either turn the post into panels with headlines,
Or can I move blog posts to another page, and make the landing page just a front page?
Apologies for lack of correct vocabulary. I do see WordPress pages of that have headers, footers, and four panels/selections in the body, rather than a long long long list of blogs.
My readers found them to be too much just words words words.
Is this an upgrade? What do I ask for?
Thanks so much for the help. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no upgrade required to do any of the following.
Would like to make footer visible on initial screen (making body therefore short).
You control how long your front page becomes by choosing how many post to display on it here > Settings > Reading
can I move blog posts to another page, and make the landing page just a front page?
If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page ie. landing page for your site, and also create a “blog” page for your posts to display on, but that’s optional.

What’s critical is:
(1) a clear comprehension of the differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(2) a clear comprehension of the fact that there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. But we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages. Note: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display.
A custom menu allows you to display Categories with drop-downs to sub-categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed. If you wish you can also include Pages with drop-downs to sub-pages and custom links in your custom menu as well. You choose the order in which to display the foregoing in your custom menu. You choose which to display and which to hide. How to create a custom menu. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus

Great, thanks. Yes, I had not found the settings, readings selection.
So now, using this, I can get one post and that summarized.
Is it possible to make the posts, summaries, and boxes 4 up? -

I’m not exactly sure what you mean. You can insert “the more tag” into your other posts by editing them. If you do that then only brief excerpts will appear on the front page and when the post title or leave comments link are clicked the whole post and all comments below it will display on a separate page.
The setting here > Settings > Reading is for your RSS feed only and choosing “summary” there will only affect the display in your RSS feed for posts.

Okay, that is helpful. That is half of what I want.
Right now the posts are listed on after another vertically. I see some people have for boxes of summarized posts in that “body” space between the header and the footer. Can that be done?
Thanks so very much for your kind responses!
Thanks! -
No, it cannot, not even with the CSS upgrade as it would require additional divs to be added to the underlying theme script files and some additional PHP scripting.
Inuit Types will give two columns of posts on the main page if you desire and will even automatically break posts without the need of a read more tag. You can see what that looks like by going to Timethief’s blogging tips blog.

Other themes with two columns of posts: Chateau, Hemingway, Under the Influence.
Also DePo Masthead, with 3 columns.
Then there’s Selecta: can display your latest posts in a row (titles plus thumbnails or excerpts) under the header.

@greatshalom
This is just to let you know that I changed my blog from the Inuit Types theme to the Twenty Eleven theme this weekend.
