Want separate page for new videos

  • Unknown's avatar

Using an autoresponder I want to send visitors from my website and Facebook page to my blog to see a succession of videos, with a 3 day gap between each one. When I Add New Page and add a video all the titles are on the same page, untidily placed on the title bar and beneath it, not on a different page.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I believe you are failing to comprehend the differences between posts and pages. Pages are static. They are a good way to publish information that doesn’t change much, like an About page. Pages appear in the Pages widget and in tabs/links across the top of some themes. Pages are not associated with a date/time like posts.

Posts are entries that display in reverse chronological order on your blog’s front page. Posts are included in category lists, archives, and feeds. Posts are always associated with a date, which is included in the URL.

    Hi Timethief

I don’t want the pages to change I want 10 different pages that will have 10 different videos and they will stay just like that. I will send the people to each video one after the other and I don’t want them to see the previous video or a list of the videos, just the URL of the one I am sending them to.

Does that make sense and is there a way to do it?

If I post them, the 10 videos will not have their separate URL will they?

If you want to post videos to 10 pages ie. 1 video per page then you can do that. And if you want to hide pages so there are no links to them appearing in your horizontal menu you can do that by creating a custom menu.

A custom menu allows you to display Categories with drop-downs to sub-categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed. If you wish you can also include Pages with drop-downs to sub-pages and custom links in your custom menu as well. You choose the order in which to display the foregoing in your custom menu. You choose which to display and which to hide.
    1. You create a custom menu. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

    2. You add the Parent pages you want to display and arrange them in the order you want.

    3. Then you add and drop and drag the subpages below the appropriate Parent pages, and when you have everything arranged in the menu that you want you save the menu.

    4. Go to the “theme location” module at upper left on the menu page. Select your custom menu name from the pulldown labeled “primary location.” Click the save button in that module.

    5. Refresh your browser so that it isn’t possibly pulling a cached page, and view see your new menu with Parent pages and dropdowns to sub-pages.

However, if you aren’t clear on the SEO impact of choosing to use pages rather than posts then reading this entry will enlighten you.

    Hi timethief

I implemented your suggestions and they worked (thank you) …. except that the “page” permalink no longer works and if I use the new “menu” permalink address that doesn’t work either. Result my site looks much tidier without all the duplicates in the side bar but I can’t send people to watch the videos. Oh dear!

I’m not clear on how to help you with this as all the links to your pages do work for me when I click them so I’ll stop posting and hopefully another Volunteer or Staff will be able to assist you.

but I can’t send people to watch the videos

As timethief, I can click on Video 1, Video 2 and so on and have no problem seeing the videos. Problem solved?
