Want thumbnails to open to page without comment

I’ve tried everything and can’t seem to correct a problem with the table of images on this page: http://dexterpottery.com/gallery-alkaline-glazed-pottery-2/ So far, so good.

My problem is what happens after clicking on the thumbnail. Although I used the same settings (e.g. link url setting) when adding each photo, I get different results, depending on which thumbnail I click. What I WANTis for the landing page to look like images #1-6 and 8, as seen in this example: http://dexterpottery.com/gallery-alkaline-glazed-pottery-2/vase-with-glass-runs-1/

What I DON’T WANT is what happens (a post with a comment at the bottom) which happens after you click on images #7 and 9-15, as seen in this example: http://dexterpottery.com/gallery-alkaline-glazed-pottery-2/snakejug/

I’m going dizzy and cross-eyed from trying to figure this out and would be so grateful for any adice.

I meant to add that, in my efforts to resolve the problem, I went over the code (in html mode on the edit page) with a fine-toothed comb and can’t find any differences in the the <td> code from one thumbnail to the next. So what would cause each thumbnail to behave differently?

I’m really hoping that someone can help me with this. I’ve spent hours trying to fix it to no avail.

Hi. It looks like the target URL for some images is the image file, and in some others, it’s the attachment page. I don’t think it has anything to do with the actual TD tags. I suggest you read this “unofficial FAQ” about galleries to find out more:

Hi. I really appreciate your response; the sound of chirping crickets was growing deafening in here! I actually studied gammagirl’s excellent page (and several others) studiously before undertaking this “gallery” of images, which is why I ultimately opted to insert a table instead of using the WP gallery function.

The table overcame some of the limitations of the gallery function, such as text placement. But I especially liked that I ended up with a destination page like this from the thumbnails: http://dexterpottery.com/online-gallery/gallery-alkaline-glaze-pottery/storage-jar/ instead of being stuck with the choice of either an image file or attachment page, which seemed to be the only options when using the gallery feature.

I thought all was fine until I re-visited the thumbnails, one by one, and discovered to my horror that about 1/3 of my thumbnails had reverted to opening an “attachment page” complete with the comment feature at the bottom, which I don’t want. What I can’t figure out is why 2/3 of my thumbnails are behaving correctly when clicked-on, while the other third have turned renegade, opening to the attachment page with the comment feature at the bottom.

Any ideas? I am genuinely grateful for any suggestions.

Search justjennifer’s threads and you may find an answer. ;) –>

The easiest and fastest way to lose the comment section on attachment pages is to edit your Gallery settings and make your Gallery thumbnails link to images and not attachment pages. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/losing-thecomments-area-on-attachment-pages?replies=9#post-551086

The pages you like and the pages you don’t like are the same: they’re all attachment pages. What happened is that sometime between January 7 and February 11 you disabled commenting in Settings>Discussion. Attachment pages always adopt that setting. If you want to get rid of the comment field, you must re-upload the older images.

Problem solved. And I would never have figured it out, had you not pointed out the date differences in the photos: January 7 and February 11. Here’s what happened: In January, I put together a portfolio of images, using the WP gallery feature. In February, (having decided to not use the WP gallery feature, after all) I put together a portfolio of images using an html table. All of the images that had previously been published in the January gallery retained their old settings. That is, attachment pages WITH comments.

The newly uploaded February photos, on the other hand, produced the desired attachment page SANS comments, which is what automatically happened when I inserted photos into the table and selected the “post url” as opposed to “file url” or ” none.” I realize that the file url option gives you an image page without comment, but it doesn’t give you the option for text description, which I needed.

The fix is, as you described, re-uploading the images and inserting these into the table.

Interestingly, and just for the record, I have never, ever disabled comments in Settings>Discussion, I promise. (Although I was considering trying this remedy, back when I was still trying to get the gallery feature to post attachment pages without comments). For whatever reason, merely cutting and pasting the table code, then dropping in the images, as described above, gave me attachment pages, sans comment, to go with my thumbnails.

Again, I would never have figured this out if not for your sage observation: the date discrepancies between the attachment pages with vs. without comment. Thank you all for your help. I learned some new things along the way.

To clarify, I said “newly uploaded February photos” above. I should have said, “newly inserted February photos,” since most of these photos were uploaded to the library at the same time, in early January. The upload date had nothing to do with anything. It was all about which photos I did — and did not — originally insert into the page via the WP gallery feature.
