Want to add password to my blog but..

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I would like to know if it’s possible to add a password to my wordpress blog but not having to ask the viewers to have a wordpress account.. I’m working on a family blog and some of my family members aren’t good with internet, so I’d like to propose them only the address of my blog + password.. The only option I saw up to now was to ask them to create themselves a wordpress account, then ask if they can be “members” of my blog, is it the only option??

    Thanks for answering me,
    Catherine

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

you can password protect each post and page.

and let the your family members know the password of each post, maybe just use the same password repeatedly.
and you can change any password per post or page at a later time.

Do note that once you give passwords out, you are really trusting the receivers not to give the password out themselves.

    You are sort of stuck

BUT – try logging out then go to the create an account page and create an account for one of your computer challenged relatives using THEIR email – they should then get an email if my memory is correct that they just need to click on to activate their account – then invite them into your family blog.

    Rinse, lather, repeat

The only other Private option thing is password protect each Post Page but that only works until the password gets passed around.

I’m asking the blog entry to be password protected but when I pull up my blog it says “protected” but does not require a password to see the post! Huh?

The latest two posts in the blog linked to your username (plus the four older ones on its front page) are password-protected and do require submitting a password. You’ve probably tried the password once, so now that you’re visiting your blog again the password is no longer needed for you.

Oh – hey – thanks! I thought maybe it was because I was still logged in as administrator, but never realized that it would recognize my IP address…have a great weekend!

    You’re welcome!
I think you yourself will only see the password form again if you clear your browser’s cookies.
