Want to bring sites back to WordPress
-
My (originally WordPress) sites:
http://www.authorcloud.com
http://www.authorcloud.netwere redirected to another host so I could support commerce. Now I’ve closed that account (it was with DreamHost) and changed the namservers to point back to good ol’ WordPress. But my (now) WordPress sites are not properly configured on the wordpress.com side of things. My sites need to be set up in the WP system and be using the WP DNS. Right now that is not happening. Help! Please note: I’m a techno-idiot.
Thanks!

Hi there!
It looks like your nameservers are set up correctly, however you don’t have any Domain Mapping upgrades to tell us where to direct these domains. To add these upgrades, go to the dashboard of the site you want them to direct to and go to Store > My Domains. Select Map an Existing Domain Name.
Let me know if I can help further!

Thanks!
But remember, I’m a techno-idiot! The history is that http://www.authorcloud.com & .net were originally set up as WordPress sites. I moved their hosting to DreamHost so I could support an commerce store on them. I recently decided I didn’t need that function any longer, and cancelled with DreamHost. The problem is I can’t go to the http://www.authorcloud.com or http://www.authorcloud.net WP dashboards, ’cause the sites are in limbo! Do I have to create a new domain through WP, then follow your instructions and do the domain mapping thing? That seems strange (but then what do I know?!). Sorry to be such a pain, but again, many thanks for the help!

Hello again!
No worries! I’ll try to explain better!
Here at WordPress.com, you need to have a WordPress.com site that holds all of your site’s content. We then ‘map’ your domain to that site. For instance, you have the WordPress.com site kasloinstitute.wordpress.com with the domain kasloinstitute.com mapped to it. Your readers never see the kasloinstitute.wordpress.com address, just kasloinstitute.com
You’ll need to have a couple of WordPress.com sites like that to transfer your content into and then set up your domain names. It looks like you already have authorcloud.wordpress.com.
If that’s the site you want to do the transfer to, here’s how to proceed:
In order for your content from the DreamHost site to transfer over, you’ll need to follow these directions:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org
Make sure you do step 3 here:
https://authorcloud.wordpress.com/wp-admin/import.php
Then, go to Store > My Domains and select Map an Existing Domain:
https://authorcloud.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
Does that help? Let me know if I can explain anything more clearly! :)

Thanks. I’m still having problems. I’ve changed the domain mapping to author cloud.com. But I can’t see how I’m supposed to access “the old blog” (and then go to “Tools – Export” and transfer files) because it’s already shut down at DreamHost. Arrgghhh!!

Hi there!
I know this can be really frustrating. You’ll need to contact DreamHost about accessing your data from your old site. Generally, you need to do this before your previous hosting expires in order to maintain your data. If your content is still accessible somewhere, they should be able to help you out.
Let me know if I can help with anything else!
