Want to change a POST to a PAGE

  • Unknown's avatar

My home page was created as a post (neophyte!), and I would like it to be a static page. I read the earlier Q from someone wanting the opposite, and I assume by the answers I need to cut and paste. BUT- since it is the ‘home’/landing page (post), I don’t want to lose the navigation. Do I just need to start over? If so, how do I designate the new page as HOME?

    Thanks

First, about a misunderstanding: Your home page is not the “Teacup Lounge Home” post, it’s the POSTS PAGE. You have the impression it’s the post because you only have that single post at the moment. Once you publish more posts, they will appear above the “TLH” (assuming you retain that post – which you don’t want to).

Now, for what you want to do:

    1. Go to the html editor of the post, copy its content, then go to Write > Page, paste the content, put “Teacup Lounge Home” in the title box, scroll down to “Page Parent” and select another page as the parent of the “TLH” page (so that it won’t show as a tab in the header), publish. Look at the address bar of your browser and note down the ID of the page (the number at the end of the address).

    2. Write one more page, without adding any content, title it “Posts”, publish.

    3. Go to Design > Widgets > Pages > Edit, write the ID of the “TLH” page in “Exclude” (so that the page tab won’t show in the sidebar), save changes.

    4. Go to Settings > Reading > Front page displays, click the static page button, select “TLH” as your front page and “Posts” as your posts page, save changes.

Thanks, Pana, for taking time to respond to my inquiry, and with generous detail. Your help is appreciated- I will give it a try.
