Want to change blog name in URL in old acct. but can't; name is reserved.
-
Hello and thank you, each, for reading this.
About 2 years ago I attempted to start a blog for a patient advocacy group having trouble finding their prescriptions. I had to stop working as my health went into a decline. The URL is http://cantfindmeds.wordpress.com. I never did anything with it other than create it.
Yesterday I logged on to begin a blog about a totally different topic that has to do with my love of linens and found I still had the old account. I went to change it but the change only changed the name on the page and not in the URL. I want the URL and the blog name to be the name I am using to start selling linens, “jeannesaddiction”, as it “is” my addiction, so to speak. ;)
I didn’t think it would look too well to have that particular phrase in the URL, combined with my linen obsession related blog name so I tried to change the URL, only to see a message saying that the new name, jeannesaddiction, is reserved. I “think” the reason it showed as reserved was because I had just entered it as a name change. Not sure but, I don’t find it when searching for it.
I read several support and forum posts that are similar to this and I think perhaps I would need a WordPress employee to check this out in their records (and I understand they are on a short hiatus) but I thought I would ask if any of you may have some insight on this.
Thank you, kindly, for any help,
JeanneThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. You are correct: jeannesaddiction.wordpress.com has been reserved. This means someone has already registered the username, jeannesaddiction. When someone registers a username the matching URL is automatically reserved for them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#additional-info
I “think” the reason it showed as reserved was because I had just entered it as a name change.
The blog title you enter under Settings ->General has nothing to do with your URL. They don’t even have to match (though it’s better in terms of branding that they do).
There’s no way of obtaining that URL unless you’re somehow able to track down the person who registered that username and ask them to register that address and then transfer it to you.
If you perhaps changed your username to jeannesaddiction and in the process created a different username account, then you need to log in under that account to be able to register that URL.
Your other options are to pick a different URL, or see if the URL you want is available for registration as a custom domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
