Want to compare many themes, how can I save my changes (Before Buying/activate?)

    Hi guys,

I want to upgrade the theme of FoxDeploy.com but don’t want to lose my customizations to the base theme I’m using. Additionally, when I pick a new theme, especially a premium theme, I’ll need to add header images and tweak things before it is ready to ‘go live’.

How can I save multiple themes to compare and contrast them? If I buy a new theme and activate it, do I lose my current theme?

If this were not hosted on wordpress.com, it’d be simple to save my CSS and files, etc. Since it’s hosted, this is more abstract and harder to understand.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

If you change to a different theme then the customizations which you have made on your current theme may indeed be lost. Not in every case, but in many (it depends on what features the themes have in common and how the themes were written in how the customizations can be carried over).

In regard to premium themes, you are always welcome to purchase one customize it, and if you decide that you don’t like it write in and request a refund within 30 days of purchase. We would of course prefer if you did not do so over and over again, but we understand that themes are an important aspect of your site and need to be seen and felt in order to find the right one.

We don’t currently have a way to fully customize several themes in different ways and then compare them side by side. It’s not something which has been widely requested so not something which we have spent any time creating. I’m sorry for the inconvenience!

    Thank you for the reply.

In my opinion, it would be a useful feature to be able to retain the look and feel of various themes after they’ve been tweaked.

If you could submit this as a requested feature, I would appreciate it.

I certainly can, and I just did so. Our suggestions queue is regularly reviewed and items with a large number of requests or which are of particular interest to our developers are put on our roadmap. I can’t give any indication of when or if it will be implemented, but at least it is there!

In the mean time, may I suggest that as you work on developing your blog, you take screenshots of the one that you’re currently tweaking? Then if you want to try another one, you can compare the two at least via screenshot and you’re not relying on your memory.
