Want to consolidate and rename a blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a blog with a name I like (e.g. Rutabaga times) and a generic address (e.g. Dave.wordpress.com). I would like to keep the ‘dave’ address but also point to this blog with a better address (e.g. rutabagatimes.wordpress.com).
Simple enough, except a few months ago I actually created a blog rutabaga times.wordpress.com and tried to import content from the original blog. Didn’t work.
And since I mistakenly named these the same for admin purposes, both blogs show up exactly the same on wordpress account info (rutabagatimes.wordpress.com) I’m afraid of screwing up and either deleting the wrong blog or losing the use of one or both of these addresses.
SO – – now I want to keep the content of the original blog, point to it with both addresses, and delete the content of the newer but obsolete blog.
Clear as mud? open to any suggestions. thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You currently have three blogs under your account:

    projectdave.wordpress.com
    davetuchler.wordpress.com
    thearmchairmba.wordpress.com

Which of these do you want to keep, rename or transfer?

Thanks for your note. I would like to keep the content on projective.wordpress.com and point to it using both projectdave.wordpress.com and thearmchairmba.com. I don’t need the content that’s currently in thearmchairmba.com. I realize that there is probably a redirect upcharge.
But really thankful for any help you can provide.

The site redirect upgrade allows you to redirect to one other address: http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ . Alternatively you can create a static front page to redirect your users to a different blog: http://en.support.wordpress.com/front-page

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

thanks. appreciate it; actually was aware of the redirect stuff. What would be really helpful is some basic step-by-step guidance (wish I could have figured this out on my own):
    1) how do I delete the blog version that I don’t want to keep? (and do I do this step first?) This would be the one whose URL is thearmchairmba.com. I’m a little terrified of deleting the wrong blog, since they show up in my administrative area as the same thing.
    2) since I would be deleting the blog but keeping the URL, do I need to do anything to ‘save’ this URL during the process?

    Thanks much.

I think you want to empty the blog instead and keep the URL, is that correct? because deleting the blog will delete it permanently.

You can quickly remove your contents by deleting them in bulk.
Alternatively, we can empty the whole blog for you, but that will remove all data including posts, pages, tags, categories, comments, and uploaded files.
Once deleted, the data cannot be recovered.

If you are sure you want to proceed, please reply to confirm the name of the blog you want us to empty.

I think you have it right but apologies, I’m still confused. I think I really need specific steps (step1, step 2, etc). I can do the deletions no problem but when I went to buy the redirect option, it implied that I would be redirecting away from wordpress. I’m not.

To review: I have 2 blogs with content: one titled projectdave.wordpress.com and one titled thearmchairmba.com.
    – I want to KEEP the content on projectdave.wordpress.com. I want this content to be accessible via both URLs. I want to delete the content on thearmchairmba.com and redirect that URL to projectdave.wordpress.com. I MUST keep the content currently on projectdave.wordpress.com

My fear is somehow deleting content on projectdave.wordpress.com.
    Possible to get stepwise instructions?

    Thanks.
