Want to create drop down menus for each category

  • Unknown's avatar

I have the Chateau theme and I want to create drop down menus or trees for each category that will display all posts in each category when you click on the category title. PLEASE HELP!

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Do you mean that you want to display all the posts in that category WITHIN the drop down menu? Or that you want a link in the dropdown that will take you to a page showing all the posts in that category?

I want to display all the posts in that category within the drop down menu. Or tree. Either is fine. I just want someone to be able to click on a category, see all the posts available in that category and then click on the post they want to read and be taken directly to that post.

    Thanks for your help!

  • While you could set each link up manually, there is no automated way to do that on WordPress.com.

Could you please tell me how to up the links manually? Thanks!

  • Have you read through this support page about menus? There is even a really helpful video that walks you through the process of setting up a menu:

    Menus

Take a look through that page and let me know if you have any further questions. I’ll be happy to help.

I have figured out that by posting links to my posts, I can get the result I want. However, in the Chateau theme, the navigation label (or title) of any link gets text-wrapped after about 18 characters. Is there any way to stop the titles from getting text-wrapped or increase the number of characters before that happens? Maybe by widening the column with a css tweak? Thanks!

If you go to my blog and hover over the category “Information Dispensory” you will see the link navigation label (title) is text-wrapped. Creating a longer category title doesn’t affect the width of the column that appears below when you hover. Hopefully there is a way to do this by adding to the css. Thanks!

  • Do you mean where it says “posts dispensing information”? I am not seeing that as being wrapped. But you are?

If you hover your mouse pointer over the category “Information Dispensory” at the top left corner of the blog, you will see the link navigation label appear below. It should read “FEBO! THIS ARTICLE WAS PUBLISHED 6-6-14.” That is the part that is text-wrapped.

    Thanks for your continued assistance!

  • You should be able to achieve that with some CSS and the custom design upgrade (which you have). I believe using something like this would work:

    white-space: nowrap

I would suggest making a post on the CSS Customization forum here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

Lots of good advice there and knowledgeable people.

I had seen that command in my searches but was unsure how to apply it or if that was the right one. I’ll post my question in the other forum. Thanks so much!

  • It may take some testing and I cannot guarantee that it will work. But I hope posting on the CSS forum will get you headed in the right direction.
